Agriculture Ministry publishes recommendations for farmers following hail damage

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development has published a series of recommendations for farmers regarding the treatment of fruit trees following hail-related injuries.

According to the Ministry, after being hit by hail, the main priority is to protect plant wounds, prevent infections, and help restore agricultural cultures.

In published recommendations, MBPZHR has advised farmers to initially apply copper-based preparations for disinfecting wounds and reducing risk from bacterial and fungi infections.

The application of copper-based fuel for disinfecting the wounds and lowering the risk of bacterial and fungi” is recommended, says the Ministry's announcement, referring to preparations such as copper hydroxide, copper dioxide and Bordolese juice.

According to the MBPZHR, these preparations create a layer of protection on damaged surfaces and reduce the possibility of exposing pathogens through hail-related wounds.

The ministry has recommended that 2 to 5 days after initial treatment be used biostimulants to help the plant overcome physical stress and regenerate damaged tissue.

At this stage, farmers are suggested to use amino acids, extracts of marine algae, hulmic acids, and fulviks, as well as silicated preparations.

Similarly, a balanced feeding program, which includes calcium and water for strengthening new tissues, nitrogen in moderate doses for regeneration of leafy mass and potassium for increased plant resistance to stress, is recommended for recovery.

The MBPZHR has called for farmers to regularly monitor the condition of orchards, as after the hail the risk of manifesting mushroom and bacterial diseases increases.

Convenient treatment must be implemented according to the assessment of damage, climate conditions and recommendations for the respective culture, respecting registered parameters and label guidelines”, the ministry has announced.

According to the announcement, recommendations should be adjusted to the type of fruit tree, the development phase, the scale of damage and agroclimatic conditions in the area.

The MBPZHR's Department of Consultative and Technical Services has encouraged farmers to pursue professional agricultural practices and seek advice at the Municipal Consultative Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development.
