Journalists' association in Albania reacts after insults against journalists at the Tirana protest: We're party.

The Association of Journalists of Albania has reacted after some of the concerns raised by journalists who have claimed to have faced insults, verbal threats or attempted obstruction during the exercise of their task on the ground in protests under way in Tirana.
AGSH says it is carefully following the civic protests under way in Tirana and re-exerts that the right to protest is one of the fundamental pillars of a democratic society.
“Citizens have the right to express their frustrations, oppose public decision making, and seek accountability from institutions. This right should be respected and guaranteed in any circumstance”.
However, AGSH says journalists are not parties in protest and that they are there to document the event, inform the public and ensure that the voice of protesters is heard by an audience as wide as possible.
“Sulmet, implantation or obstruction of their work do not serve anyone's cause and violate the public's right to inform”.
AGSH urged participants in the protest and all citizens to show caution and respect to journalists reporting from the ground, regardless of attitudes they may take toward the media or the way they have covered certain developments.
“Kritika to the media is legitimate in a democratic society. But it should not turn into enmity with individual journalists, who often work in difficult conditions and with responsibility to bring information to the public”. /Periscopi/
