World Cup: Madibo suspended five matches over Kone's foot

Qatar's player, Assim Madibo, was suspended five matches Wednesday for the intervention that broke the leg of Canadian midfielder Ishmael Cone, in the World Cup.
Madibo was sentenced to a red card directly for the incident during Canada's 6-0 victory over Qatar in Vancouver last Thursday, reports APPeriscope broadcast.
FIFA's disciplinary committee said the suspension was serious foul and that the decision could be appealed.
Canada's first World Cup victory was overshadowed by Kone's injury, which was pulled out of the stretch and later underwent surgery on the left foot.
Madibo was also obviously upset and personally apologized to Kones after the match.
You can't imagine how grateful I am for all those who helped me and who have me in their prayers”, later posted Cone in the Instagram.
Qatar's national team did not immediately respond to a request for comments by The Associated Press.
The ban is not the largest given by FIFA in a World Cup. Uruguay's striker, Louis Suwarez, was suspended with nine matches and banned from any football activity for four months because he bit Italy's defender Giorgio Chillini at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
In 1994, Italy's defender Mauro Tasotti was suspended for eight matches because of an elbow kick against Spain's assailant, Louis Enrique.
