Pristina airport: From 2 million to over 4.6 million passengers, how did one of Europe's fastest - growing airports become?

Pristina International Airport “Adem Jashari” is experiencing the biggest transformation in its history. From an airport that once processed some 2 million travelers a year, it has now passed the record of over 4.6 million passengers, ranking among the fastest growing airports in Europe.
Continued diaspora growth, direct flights to European cities, and increased travel demand have influenced the airport to become Kosovo's main air node.
During the summer season alone, the airport faces extraordinary influx of travelers, where the terminal is often filled with family, tourists, and exiles returning to their homeland.
The most required destinations by Kosovars continue to be cities with large Albanian diaspora such as Switzerland, Germany and Nordic countries.
The lines to Zurich, Basel, Munich, and Vienna remain among the most frequent, especially during the summer months and holiday season.
Despite challenges, airport transformation is seen as an economic and strategic success for Kosovo. In addition to connecting the country to the world, the airport has directly affected the development of tourism, business and economic circulation, becoming one of the country's most important infrastructure assets.
Experts estimate that if the current trend continues, Pristina's airport could soon face the need for new expansions and additional investments in order to maintain the pace of growth and improve passenger experience. / Periscope/
