Spanish media details six-year kidnapping found in Kosovo

A six-year-old girl, kidnapped two weeks ago by her father in Majorka, Spain, has been found in Kosovo, while the suspect has been arrested by Kosovo authorities in a co-ordinated international operation, Spanish Civil Guard has announced.
According to Spanish authorities, Father had carefully planned the escape, hiding the child in the trunk of the vehicle to leave the island of Majorca by ferry and then crossing international boundaries without declaring the girl's presence.
The investigation was launched after the birth of the child's mother, who had reported the disappearance and had announced that her former partner had left Spain with her daughter. Spanish police have found that the kidnapping was pre-organised and the suspect had taken numerous measures to avoid detection.
One of the most unusual elements of the investigation was using an AirTag tracking device that the girl had had with her, but, according to investigators, was placed in a postal envelope destined for Morocco, in an effort to avoid investigations and deceive authorities, reports Spanish media, Periscope broadcast.
Civil Guard announced that, during the investigation, residences related to the case were searched, Security cameras, banking transactions and naval movements from Majorca have been analysed, while international police co-operation mechanisms have been activated. European and international arrest warrants to suspects have been issued in the case.
Also, it has been found that the suspect had closed bank accounts and erased his profiles on social networks to reduce digital traces, while investigators have also ascertained possible use of forged or double license plates. According to the Civil Guard, he had also changed his physical appearance during his stay in Kosovo to avoid identification.
The operation was conducted in co-operation between Spanish authorities, the Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard, Spanish diplomatic representatives and police of several states, including the Kosovo Police.
Kosovo police have confirmed that the Directorate for International Police Co-operation has accepted information through INTERPOL by the Spanish authorities, under which a German citizen with the initials A.M.L. (1989) was suspected of kidnapping a six-year-old girl and of being on Kosovo's territory with the child.
After receiving the information, police have co-ordinated actions with the relevant unit for identifying and arresting the suspect, who along with the child has been located 24 June in Fushe Kosovo and has been arrested in a police operation.
At the prosecutor's order, the suspect has been sent to the detention for 48 hours, while the girl has been treated according to legal procedures and has been placed in safe housing. On June 25, after verifying the circumstances, the child has safely returned to her mother in Majorca.
Kosovo police and Spanish authorities have praised international co-operation as crucial to the dawning and resolving of the case.
