Iran is proposing to turn Hormuz Strait into a digital deadlock point, threatening to tax, regulate or potentially sabotage underwater cables that hold a significant part of global internet traffic.

These cables are owned by Google, Meta, Microsoft and Amazon, and they empower applications and services that hundreds of millions of people use every day.
