Customs prevents twin meat smuggling, serious public health risk avoids

Last night, around 6:20 p.m., at the Grlobocica Border Cross, at the entrance of the country, customs officials have banned a passenger vehicle for control.
Although the driver of the vehicle has declared that he had nothing to present to the authorities, after detailed control of the vehicle, 10 pieces of weighted coppers from 20kg each were discovered in a total amount of about 200kg and worth an estimated 800 euros.
“Beyond the attempt to avoid customs duties and taxes, this case poses a high concern for food safety. The amount of meat was being transported into an ordinary passenger vehicle, in total absence of sanitation and adequate temperature (without refrigerator), and thus aimed at avoiding the necessary sanitation control by the Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV)”, Dogan says in the statement.
The introduction of such products outside any transport standard and without professional control, according to Dogan, poses a potentially high health risk, where the amount of meat could be affected by thousands of citizens.
“Mall has been immediately seized and subject to further legal treatment to ensure full neutralisation of the risk, while against the side has initiated countervasive procedures”, Dogan said.
Kosovo Customs appealed to all citizens and businesses to avoid informal business activities and smuggling at any cost.
“Disobedience to pre-security checks brings unpredictable consequences to public health, as well as severe criminal and administrative penalties for all who violate the food safety law”, Dogana pointerin in the statement.
