Chief Pentagon: US, ready to resume attacks on Iran if no deal

The US is ready to resume attacks on Iran if an agreement cannot be reached, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Saturday, while negotiators from Washington and Tehran worked to overcome major differences blocking an agreement.

Our ability to resume if necessary... we are more than capable. Our reserves are quite suitable for this, both there and around the globe, so we are in a very good position”, Hegseth said in Singapore.

Speaking in the Shanghai-La Dialogue, Asia's main forum for defence leaders, military and diplomats, Hegseth said the US has not turned its backs on the Asia-Peacelor region despite being engaged in conflict with Iran.

We can do two things simultaneously. We are empowering our industrial defence base so that very soon we can build 2 times, 3 times, 4 times more ammunition to ensure that all of our (execution) plans are properly financed throughout the world”, he said.

Pentagon chief said President Donald Trump was “patient” and wants to make a excellent “agreement” that ensures Iran does not have a nuclear weapon
