Marta Kos: Albania, Montenegro could become EU member by 2029

European Commissioner Marta Kos said the European Union's enlargement process is moving rapidly and that it could end with the admission of new members within its mandate, which lasts until 2029.
Speaking at the URC 2026 conference in Gdańsk, she said Montenegro and Albania have the closest candidates for membership.
According to Marta Kos, among the candidate countries are those whose path towards the EU seems more defined.
“I can say that Montenegro will be the next member during my mandate”, she said.
The European commissioner also stopped in the dynamic of negotiations with Albania. According to her, our country is showing visible progress in meeting the requirements for membership.
“Albania is now beginning to close negotiating chapters. So the movement in the enlargement process is now bigger than in the last 15 years”, Martha Kos said.
According to Kos, this pace shows an overall revival of EU enlargement policy.
