“Albanian students protest in Skopje tomorrow

The protest is organised at the request that the jurisdictional exam be allowed in Albanian, but that this time the expansion of their cause has been warned.

It will take place under the motto “Be cornered with students all of a”, while organisers call for wide citizens' participation.

“S along with the Stone Bridge for our language”, says the student announcement, stressing the importance of protecting Albanian language use in professional and institutional processes.

Organisers have said the first protest had started in response to the inability to give the Albanian-language juristy exam, but during this period other problems related to the treatment of Albanian in institutions have been recorded.

One of the organisers, Mevlan Ademi, has declared that the protest has already taken on wider civic character and called for mobilization of Albanian professors, students, civil society and political factors.

“The message was initially oriented about a technical problem dealing with improving the study process, but then many other problems were discovered, and now this has turned into a protest for the use of Albanian in all northern Macedonia institutions. I also think that all levels of civil society, professors, students, political factors and all citizens should be united. Our tongue should unite us, not separate us. At the end of the day, we all have the same problem, he said.

According to the announcement, the protest will be held Monday starting at 16:30. The rally will begin at the Stone Bridge in Skopje, while then protesters march through the city.

Support for the protest has also expressed Albanian politicians from the opposition in Northern Macedonia, as well as political parties and figures from Kosovo and Albania.
