Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has recently given an interview to the renowned German newspaper FAZ. He there speaks of his father's death, politics in Kosovo, the judicial process, and many others.
One of Thaci's first questions in this interview concerns his possible return to politics if declared innocent.
The former president said the political race is behind himself, but not political life. He has added that he will continue to serve the public, but that he feels fulfilled in his political career.
“You ask if my political life is over. I see the political race behind me, but not my political life. As a free citizen of Kosovo, I will continue to serve the public and the state in the future. I bow before the people of Kosovo who have given me confidence, respect and support for two decades. I also express deep gratitude for our international partners who cooperated with me to carry out the will of citizens for freedom and independence. I feel fulfilled in my political career”, He said.
The former head of the Kosovo Liberation Army also spoke of his father's death, saying that the fact that he did not attend the funeral has hurt him deeply.
“I really appreciate your good words about my father's death. It was a big loss for my family and me personally. I am now in my sixth year of detention and still await a court ruling. The fact that I couldn't attend my father's funeral and bid my last farewell has hurt me deeply, a pain that I will bear for the rest of my life:x0>
Thaci also spoke of the testimony of General Wesley Clark:
“I fully support the arguments of my defence team. Kosovo's Specialised Chambers are the fourth international mechanism after the ICTY, UNMIK and EULEX. Each of these mechanisms has investigated the events of 19981999 and has drawn conclusions about the responsibilities. The goal of establishing this court was to investigate claims by Dick Marty's report, especially for organ trafficking claims filed by Russian representatives to the Council of Europe. But there is no reference to these charges in our indictment. They proved false. General Clark also described them as Russian dezination. We hope this process brings truth, justice and dignity”.
