According to Italian authorities, three to four masked persons, with faces covered in paper masks imitating movie characters, were barricaded inside the bank's environments. They held hostage about 25 people, including employees and customers on the scene at the time of the attack.
Order forces immediately surrounded the area, while firemen were involved in the operation, who intervened by forcibly opening the door of the mosque to enable police to enter.
After the intervention, a negotiation process began with the authors, who ended with the release of all hostages without serious consequences for their lives. Suspected authors managed to leave the scene and are currently being sought by authorities.
Police are following investigations into identifying and apprehending them, while the area has returned to normality after hours of tension. /Periscope
