According to AGK, after analyzing the case, the “this indictment contains clear elements of a Strategic Anti-Responding Anti-Public verdict (SLAPP)”, naming it as an attempt to influence the work of the media.
The indictment relates to an investigation published by Nacional and journalist Ocean Dermaku, claiming Osman was equipped with licenses without a legally requested document. This report has been distributed by other media and journalists, broadcast news.net.
AGK emphasises that “this indictment presents a clear attempt to penalise, intimidate and discourage media and journalists” for reporting on issues of public interest, adding that it “produces the intimative effect on investigative journalism”.
The organisation has announced that it will monitor the case in court and has expressed confidence in justice institutions, citing the importance of priority treatment of cases related to journalists and media freedom.
