Hargrees: Recounting carries risks for deadlines, very important for the president to be resolved over time

Hargreeves has stressed the importance of recounting for the integrity of the process, while warning that he also carries risks in terms of the president's election.

He has underlined that the process of electing the new president will develop just as long term is envisioned. The current president, Vjosa Osmani, has suggested she is also targeting a mandate at the helm of the country.

This naturally carries some risks in terms of timelines and I hope that the Commission will complete the recount as soon as possible ... it is very important that the process of electing the new president develops according to the previous deadlines. I am convinced that all parties are committed to this, because everyone understands the importance that these extremely important processes have for Kosovo”, Hargrees has declared.

The ambassador has congratulated the process of recounting the votes to be completed as soon as possible to proceed with the creation of new institutions.

It is extremely important that, after that, political parties unite, the Assembly is constitutionalised and the government begins work so that the budget and international agreements can be adopted as soon as we can,” has declared the Hargrees for T7.

According to him, Kosovo should make progress towards European integration this year.

“in 2026, as Kosovo enters its 19th year of citizenship, it is essential to have a government that is able to act decisively, make progress towards integration into the European Union and other international organisations, and continue on this path to democracy that has been impressive over the last years”.

 

 

So far, 742 locations have been re-counted from 2,000 and 557.

The Central Election Commission has declared that final results are expected to be announced in early February.
