AUV appeals to farmers to increase alertness and to implement safety measures after the pox of sheep and goats in several municipalities

The AUV has called on farmers to observe such measures as not to move sheep and goats from the farm without the authorisation of the official veterinarian to avoid contact with the flocks of other farms, and to keep the objects clean regularly.

Following confirmation of several cases of sheep and goat Lee (Sheep and Goat Pox) in the municipalities of Ferizaj, Kacanik, Shrpca and Year. The danger of further spreading this disease, the Food and Veterinary Agency urges all sheep and goats farmers to increase alertness and to observe strict biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

Based on the situation created, please apply these measures:

Do not move the sheep and goats from the farm without the authorisation of the official vet.

Limit the entrance of unauthorized people and vehicles to the farm.

Avoid contact with other farm herds.

Clean and disinfect objects, equipment, and transport tools regularly.

Every newly purchased animal is kept separate from the flock for a period of observation.

Check every day for animal health.

If you notice clinical signs like:

High fever,

Pens, or wounds in the skin, or mouth, or nose, or breasts,

A leak from the eyes or nose,

Lack of appetite, weakness or death,

Call the private vet or AUV inspectors immediately. Do not try to treat or move suspected animals.

Farmers' co-operation is crucial to preventing the spread of the disease and protecting herds throughout the country.

Lefting sheep and leaving goats is not a human disease that poses no danger to public health. It's an economic illness that causes losses to the economy of farmers and the state.
