(an hour ago)Excavations are under way in the village of Kallder e Vogel in the municipality of Zubin Potok, which is suspected to be the mass cemetery of missing persons during the war in Kosovo.
The area is placed under strict security measures and is being guarded by the elite units of the Kosovo Police, while six EULEX patrols are present on the ground, which are monitoring the development of the operation.
This development comes after Kosovo Police and Special Prosecutors have announced the arrest of two persons suspected of war crimes. According to authorities, investigations are related to wartime events, while allegedly arrests concern the location in which excavations are under way.
The Small Kallodra relates to one of the worst cases of forced extinction during the war in Kosovo. On April 19, 1999, in the Dreth and Kaluldra area of Zubin Potok, 23 Albanians, known as the “Intellectual Group”, most from the Mitrovica region.
Even after more than 27 years, their fate remains unbroken. Kosovo institutions have repeatedly stressed that official documents show the Yugoslav Army's involvement in this crime, while demanding co-operation and opening archives for the full whiteening of the case.
Excavations at this location are expected to shed light on one of the most serious wounds of war, while families of the missing continue to seek truth and justice. /Periscopi/
