A man who works for a German lawmaker in the European Parliament has been arrested as China's suspected spy, German prosecutors said Tuesday.
Suspect, identified only as Jian G. In line with German privacy laws, Germany's Federal Prosecution said in a media communique on Monday.
He has worked for the German lawmaker in the European Parliament legislature since 2019, according to the announcement.
The prosecution didn't reveal which lawmakers he works for, but the German public broadcaster, ARD, and Der Spiegel magazine, reported that he is engaged by Maximilian Arma, member of the far-right party, Alternative to Germany.
Maximilian Arm is the main German party candidate for the upcoming European Parliament elections, to be held in June.
Jian G. He is accused of working for China's intelligent service and that he has repeatedly given her information about talks and decisions at the European Parliament in January. Prosecutors also accuse him of spying on Chinese dissidents in Germany.
