Cyprus is continuing its refusal to recognise Kosovo's independence.
This state's ambassador to Belgrade, Dimitrios Teofilaktu, told the Serbian newspaper “Politika” that the country he comes from has a consistent stance on non-recognition of Kosovo, and in the so-called “respect of Serbia's territorial integrity”, thus viewing Kosovo as part of it, broadcasts the news.net.
Our stance on not recognising Kosovo is principled and consistent, and not only because we have a similar problem. To be reliable, we must be guided by consistent and principled attitudes, in accordance with international law”, Teofilaktu said.
Asked whether Cyprus suffers any consequences because of such an attitude, the ambassador said that when the vital national interests of the so-called small states are not in line with the interests of others, mainly the top <x0 player”, there must be some pressures or consequences.
Whatever economic or other consequences, states should not make decisions under pressure”, Teofilaktu said.
