That is because, according to Mehmet, Kosovars store huge sums of money in banks.
He said those deposited are nothing short of 5.5 billion euros, and that most of them belong to family economies.
On the other hand, commercial banks' assets amount to over 6.7 billion euros, loan to Kosovars banks has 4.3 billion euros.
The same said that investment opportunities are lacking in Kosovo, so such sums are raised. If such opportunities existed, according to Mehmet, the economy in the country would flourish.
Because the bank deposit rate is 2.4% citizens find it more convenient to get this interest because there are no other options where they can be invested to get higher rates. I didn't say that citizens are very wealthy, but they don't have options to invest in. If Kosovars had other options to invest, they would be richer and the country's economy would be much more developed”, the former BQC governor said in T7.
