Attacks on journalists in Kosovo, Sadiu with appeals for urgent action to ensure journalists' safety

Naim Sadiku, a member of the AGK board, in an interview at Kanal10 has expressed deep concern after the physical attack on journalist Valon Syla and has called for urgent action by institutions to ensure journalists' safety in carrying out their duty. Sadiku has called this an unacceptable act of freedom [...]

Sadiku has called this act unacceptable to freedom of press and journalism. He said it is hard to understand how there are people who use violence and self-trial.

In this context, he cited other cases of attacks on journalists in Kosovo, stressing that this is not the first case that an attack on Valon Syla has taken place and that there have been other cases of arrest of journalists.

He singled out the case of Visar Duric and the attempted burning of Alban Selim's home, which are of concern for the security situation of journalists in Kosovo.

“Lamin for the physical attack on Valon Syla we've taken with deep concern both as the Association of Kosovo Journalists and as a journalist's colleague because in a society we work and engage all of us, it's difficult to understand that there are people who take the stick in hand, self-trial in hand, and discontent and disagreements about different positions that show journalists choose to do it through the brutal form of violence so that we seek absolutely and urgently from Kosovo institutions that sooner the authors find them and to justice because these cases are not just a case. There have been cases in the past, even the second case of the attack on Valon Syla, but there are other cases of combating journalists, the case of Visar Duriq, the attempt to burn the house of Alban Selim is disturbing in which the house has been his family.” he said.

Sadiu called for immediate and strict actions by Kosovo institutions to identify the perpetrators of the attack on journalists and bring them to justice. He said institutions should provide security for the work of journalists, taking tough action to apprehend and prosecute authors of these attacks

So these are random cases that would have to raise their voices because these attacks are due to the work of journalists. Therefore, institutions either today or never should provide security for the work of journalists by exacerbating actions in either the author's capture or their conduct to justice” he has said.
