Co-operation between the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) and the S.S. ESM (North Macedonia Electrical Centrals ʹ EMV) will be in the form of exchange of knowledge and experience in terms of diversification of technologies for production.
“Piles aim to focus on reviewing all available options for exchange of coal with electricity, professional co-operation, ensuring the most efficient exchange of energy and resources in terms of production by optimising production, preparing joint plans to overcome extraordinary energy situations, and in other areas of common interest”, the Kosovo Energy Corporation reports.
All of this is reportedly done in order to ensure the continued electricity supply in the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Northern Macedonia.
The energy crisis affected the two countries because they are dependent on electricity imports and to ensure sustainable electricity production and thermal production during the crisis, additional efforts were made for the efficient and sustained functioning of production units. Therefore, this memorandum will positively influence the reduction of dependence on electricity imports for both countries, the announcement said.
The Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Northern Macedonia are neighbouring countries that have friendly relations and co-operate in a series of areas. Because they have interconnected energy systems, the two countries would benefit from a broader co-operation, especially if it is considered that they use different technologies for production”, thuhe away in the announcement.
The Kosovo Economy Ministry and the Northern Macedonia Economy Ministry, on 16 September 2021, signed Memorandum of Understanding for the Energy Sector, and with this memorandum of understanding between the SAM ESM (CEMV) and KEK, an additional basis for long-term co-operation in order to improve energy security and ensure sustainable energy supply.
