The Romanian Army will increase the number of its deployed forces in Kosovo under KFOR and will send an infantry company to the Balkan peacekeeping mission in the coming period.
That is how the Romanian Ministry of National Defence has announced, reports Clankosova. tv
After authorisation by the North Atlantic Council concerning additional forces to manage the current situation in the Western Balkans, Romania will decide in the near future a company-level sub-entity, named as part of the strategic reserve available to SACEUR, within NATO-KFOR's operation in Kosovo. Romania has taken over as an ally NATO and EU member state, the dedication to contributing forces and military means to efforts to preserve a stable security environment in the Western Balkan region”, has the ministry in question.
Romania currently contributes to operations in the Western Balkans with almost 330 soldiers, of whom about 250 in Bosnia and Herzegovina and about 80 soldiers in Kosovo, in the KFOR operation.
A military company consists of 150-250 troops.
Currently, some 4,500 troops from 27 countries serve in KFOR.
On Sunday, a coalition spokesman said around 200 British troops would be deployed to Kosovo to strengthen NATO's presence following the September 24th terrorist attack.
At the same time, Germany announced that it does not rule out increasing the contribution of German troops to NATO's peaceful mission in Kosovo.
