American professor warns: Kosovo at risk, new front may be opened

This war will only end when Russia is defeated”. David Philips, director of the peace and human rights program at the respective institute at Columbia University in an interview for A2 CNN expresses concern for the situation in the Western Balkans, especially after Vladimir Putin's campaign in Ukraine. According to him, “is one [...]
According to him, “is a very disturbing situation. Putin's statement two days ago, for nuclear weapons use, indicates that war can become wider, does not rule out that Putin can use chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, so I'm very concerned”.
Tuta Philipps said that perhaps in smaller dimensions, such a situation could happen even in the Western Balkans, where Serbia seems the only Kremlin ally in the region.
“Bota is divided between Democrats and Democrats. Vucic is on the Ottoman side. If Putin feels depressed because of the loss of war, he might try to distract the West and NATO, opening another front and using Serbia and Vucicin as a remote struggle. We need to prepare for this”, U.S. professor adds.
Philips analyses the Kosovo situation, where, according to him, it is not only possible to solve the European mediation.
“The EU lacks legitimacy as mediator, Lajcak and Borelli come from countries that have recognised Kosovo itself. The US must have a more active role”, it is his words, adding that Washington “should recognise that their friends in the region are Albanians. The US has no closest friends in the world than Albanians. Instead of taking an equal stand, it should make clear that it is exercising its weight in support of Kosovo's” stance.
He speaks against the concept of association.
It is unnecessary to create the Serbian Communist Association. Hashim Thaci should not have accepted and parliament should not have approved. But now it is important not to turn into an obstacle to concluding negotiations. Hence, the creation of association must be completed and made clear that there will be no executive functions. It's just an administrative measure dealing with urban development, housing, local issues. No executive power”.
