“Russia may try to do something particularly disgusting, especially cruel”, Zelensky said in his speech Saturday.
“One of the enemy's main objectives is to humiliate us,” and “planted despair, fear and conflict”, but “we must be strong enough to resist any provocation” and “make invaders pay for their terror”, he said.
Ukraine's Independence Day on Wednesday, August 24th, also marks six months since the launch of the Russian occupation of the former Soviet republic.
There are rumours that on the anniversary of Ukraine's independence, the Russians will bring to trial Ukrainian fighters captured during the siege of Marioupolis.
In the northeastern town of Harkiv, the city governor declared a curfew from the evening of August 23rd to the morning of August 25th.
We will not allow any provocation from the enemy. Be as vigilant as you can during our 391th independence party, Oleg Synegubov wrote on the telegram.
Harkivi has been under continued Russian bombings for weeks, and on Sunday emergency services said two other civilians were killed in night attacks.
Four civilians were reportedly killed by Russian fire in Donjeck, the region's governor, Pavlo Krylenko, said. / REL
