Latvia's Parliament officially designated Russia as the “sponsor state of terrorism”.
Latvian parliament, “Saeima” called on European Union countries to limit entry and issuing tourist visas to Russian citizens and Belarus, the Latvian public broadcaster writes Anadolu.
“Saeima stresses that Russia uses suffering and intimidation as an instrument in its efforts to demoralise the Ukrainian people and the armed forces”, the Latvian parliament's announcement said.
“Saeim recognises Russia's violence against civilians, which is continuing for political purposes, such as terrorism, and Russia as a country supporting terrorism, and calls on other countries with similar thoughts to express such an opinion. Parliamentarians till the military aggression and the wide-scale invasion of Ukraine with the support and commitment of the Belarus regime”, it is also said in the statement.
Parliament also called on the Euro-Atlantic Community and its partners to urgently decide and increase sweeping sanctions against Russia, including calling on EU member states for immediate suspension of tourism and restrictions on entry visas for citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus”.
According to UN estimates, at least 5,401 civilians have been killed and 7,466 have been wounded since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war on 24 February. The real number is believed to be much higher.
