A total of 36 entry and exit flights were canceled at Munich Airport on Wednesday after ground staff left work for five hours to participate in a brief strike.
The Verdi Union has called for a strike to raise wages. Grava targeted Swissport Losch, a company that offers land services, hotels and cargo. A union spokesman said the workers' participation was high.
Flights operated by Air Dolomiti, Citylic and Eurowings on behalf of Lufthansa towards destinations, including Palma de Majorka, Florence, Turin, Bolonja, Zurich, Stuttgart and Dresden, the airport spokesman confirmed.
Verdi is demanding a significant salary increase for nearly 600 Swissport Losch workers to secure a real salary due to eight percent inflation”, chief negotiator Manuela Dietz said. The company could then meet its open positions, Dietz said.
Swissport Losch provides passenger services, as well as luggage and cargo services for airlines and airport subsidiary Aerogrove. It offers aircraft parking services, including bus and transport services.
The date of new negotiations has not yet been determined.
