Citizens can still buy under - the - counter medicine at drugs across the country. This is also accepted by the Oda of the Kosovo Pharmacists, as well as the Association for the Protection of Patients' Rights, which assess the situation as disturbing. In their view, antidepressants may also be bought at the pharmacy without the doctor's description.

The deputy chairman of the Kosovo Pharmacists' Oda, Dardana Mehaj, told Kosovas that it still stands as a problem offering drugs without describing the doctor.

There are many different types of drugs that citizens themselves come to the drug store without the doctor's recommendation at first, but the pharmacist is the one who should explain which bar is taken without a prescription and which is not and what to give you. It can be treated by the patient himself because there are times when there is a slight cold or a symptom of fatigue, a change in seasons, and there are therapies that do not need a doctor's description, but there are times when drugs need to be described by prescriptions and pharmacists should not give”, Mehe said.

“Barna psychotrope is not given at all without the recipe or drugs they call in red recipe or red stamp... then antidepressants are not taken without prescriptions, there are many other drugs that shouldn't be distributed in any non-pronounced drug store”, Mehaji follows.

The head of the Association for the Protection of Patients' Rights, Besim Kodra, has told Kosova Preis that selling under-prescription drugs is disturbing and damaging the health of patients, while adding that pharmaceutical inspectorate is not overseeing the work in drugs.
