A fleet of ships from various countries, even as it has not been seen during the Cold War, is now located in the Mediterranean, states Italian Navy head Enrico Creddenino in an interview for ãoCerie della Sera possibly, and in the area, 18 Russian battleships and two submarines.
Admiral explains that they are doing so with 2 of the 4 European frigates that are available. For now according to Creditino, the Russians are no threat.
“They sail to the Mediterranean from the base of Tartius (Siri) as we do in the Strait of Sicilia”, he said, adding however that they are being kept closely under surveillance.
Admiral explains that there are also Turks and French in this part of the sea, while the US has left the Mediterranean in part to focus on Indo-Peacelor's scenario.
So, “na is up to us to fill the void, this is our house”, was his comment.
Admiral predicts the coming months will bring big changes, so they should be prepared.
The war in Ukraine will, for example, increase migration flows to Europe, and furthermore there is the energy crisis”, he recalls.
As for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Italian naval forces according to Credendino are willing to accompany cargo, but also “are considering demining operations in coastal regions”, while considered the Mediterranean will continue to remain a key scenario.
