Although it was foretold that during 2021 the population registration process was initiated, there is still no precise date for the process to begin. Kosovo Statistics Agency spokeswoman Hazbije Qariqi said in an answer to Radio Kosovo that because of the pandemic and the situation with the central and local elections, this process has been postponed indefinitely.
“The census was meant to be held during 2021. However, after the pandemic situation, central elections, and then local ones, this process has been postponed indefinitely. Once the Law is approved for the census in the Kosovo Assembly, then nine months after this law must be maintained this process”, Hazbije Qeriki says of Radio Kosovo.
Speaking of innovations that were envisioned in this process, Curick said the census would be made in electronic form and that digital maps would be introduced for the first time.
This time the collection will be traditional, door by door. But unlike the questionnaires on the paper that was last recorded, we're doing it electronically this time.
Wires. Also, we are preparing maximum for the first time to use digital maps in Kosovo during population census”, Qrerici explains.
Among other things, she said the census is scheduled to take place on the entire territory of Kosovo, including the northern part of the country.
Early residents of Serb majority municipalities in northern Kosovo had rejected the registration process.
The last census in Kosovo was done in 2011. Of this process, the total number of residents in Kosovo was around 1.8 million.
