The “heavy” situation in the besieged city of Marioupolis could be a “red line” on the road to negotiations, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, said.
In an interview for CBS News, Kuleba also said there had not been any recent diplomatic communication between Russia and Ukraine at the level of their foreign ministries, Telegrafi notes.
The foreign minister went on to say he expected “to intensify heavy fighting in eastern Ukraine” in the coming weeks.
Kuleba said: “We haven't had contact with Russian diplomats in recent weeks at the level of foreign ministries”.
THE only contact level “is the negotiating team consisting of representatives of different institutions and deputies”.
“They continue their expert-level consultations, but no high-level talks are under way”.
Earlier today, Ukrainian soldiers opposed a Russian ultimatum to hand over weapons to Marioupol, with Ukrainian Prime Minister Danys Schmyhal saying troops in the port city were still fighting.
