Even in Kosovo is Competition Authority - The AKK, as in Albania, unless it is able to make any moves, flows cannot make a decision. That is because since June last year, the AKK has remained without a director, who has authority to take action.
The basic mandate of the AKK is to protect free competition as a precondition for sustainable economic development, and that means that the AKK acts when violated, hampered or distorted competition in the market.
More specifically, the Competition Authority can react to those cases when companies act co-ordinatedly (so if such an action is the result of their explosive agreement, through the form of the banned cartel or their conduct on the market recently co-ordinated practice). The AKK may also react to companies that have dominant market positions and who misuse this position.
In the wake of nine months, the Kosovo government has prosecuted more names of the AKK Board.
At the regular meeting the Government has held today, it has also prosecuted the names of members of the Kosovo Competition Commission (AKK). Hekuran Nikqi has been recommended for AKK chairman, while Kaltrina Sela, Shpend Miftaraj, Besim Stubla and Nasije Osdautaj have been nominated for members.
To become the mandate of the Competition Authority, these names must be voted on by the Parliament. / P ERISCOPI/
