It is clear that because of the situation in Ukraine we are preparing for different scenarios. One of them is [the province]'s actions regarding the possible influx of refugees from Ukraine, who, due to a possible conflict, can seek a safe haven in our country”, Kaminski said.
Poland and Ukraine share a 332-mile border.
The mayor of the eastern Polish town of Ciechanow said on Saturday that he was asked by the regional government to prepare accommodations for potential refugees, reports The Guardian.
“We were asked to show the list of accommodation facilities for refugees, the number of people that would be possible to accommodate, the costs involved, and the time to adjust buildings with a recommendation of up to 48 hours”, Krzztof Kosinski wrote on Twitter.
At the end of January, Poland's Deputy Interior Minister Maceye Wasik said Poland was preparing for up to a million Ukrainian immigrants.
