Japan will freeze Russian President Vladimir Putin's financial assets and other key government officials following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
So has Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, according to Japanese public broadcaster NHK.
Prime Minister Fumio said Russia's actions are a violation of international law Japan strongly condemns.
He also said a united response was necessary to protect international order.
Prime Minister Fumio also said that “Japan will join the United States and European countries in blocking Russian-elected banks from international payment network “Swift”
According to him, Japan will provide additional humanitarian assistance of $100m to the people of Ukraine, in addition to the preliminary promise worth about $100m.
Swift is the high-security network that connects thousands of financial institutions worldwide.
