An attack was defeated by a known enemy. With the collection of 150 thousand Russian troops near the borders of Ukraine, the territorial integrity of one of NATO's eastern neighbours is threatened.
“It is to force President Zelensky's government to close its eyes and make major concessions”, Says retired General Ben Hodges, former commander of the American Army in Europe.
US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin was received in Brussels by Secretary General NATO, Jens Stoltenberg.
“You've heard us oftenW Say that we are devoted to the principles of collective security. Even in the future, you can expect our commitmentW Great. - What?on this appointment You presented an immediate aggressive program. I look forward to working with you and my colleagues to handle some important issues for the alliance and the region. So, I'm glad to be here and I can't wait to get to work”, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said from Brussels.
Mr. Austin's visit to Brussels comes amid hopeful signals that Europe can avoid war after weeks of high tension between East and West.

American fighter planes are ready to monitor airspace on the east NATO wing. An American aircraft carrier has been deployed in the Adriatic Sea for the first time in decades. Thousands of additional American troops have been deployed in Poland and Romania.
On Tuesday, Russian lawmakers asked President Vladimir Putin for formal recognition of regions controlled by separatists in eastern Ukraine as independent states, a movement that Mr. Putin may use to justify intervention in an area he no longer knows as Ukraine's territory.
But US President Joe Biden on Tuesday warned serious economic and political consequences if Russia attacks Ukraine.
“will face devastating international consequences. The world will not forget that Russia chose unnecessary death and destruction. The attack on Ukraine will be a self-inflicted wound”, Mr. Biden said.
Now Russia says it is withdrawing troops from the Ukrainian border, although the US president said the United States still cannot confirm Moscow's claims.
The Kremlin has not made clear whether there will be complete troop withdrawal, saying Russia's future movements depend on the situation.
