Former US Ambassador to Pristina Philip Costett has published an authorial text on the official site of the Centre for European Political Analysis, where he has written about the world security situation and stressed the importance of NATO membership.
In this writing, Costett has mentioned Finland, Sweden, Austria and the Western Balkan region, including Kosovo and Serbia. He says nothing more would show European solidarity than the application of neutral states for NATO membership.
The American ambassador has generally talked about the Western Balkan region. He has stressed that most countries in the region are in NATO, exempting Kosovo, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which according to him still do not look like candidate states.
The former American diplomat who served in Kosovo adds further that while Bosnia and Herzegovina is “in confusion”, Kosovo and Serbia deserve attention. Speaking of such a thing, he mentions Alexander Vuciqi's game as a researcher of multiple alliances -- Russia, China, the EU and the US.
Kostett says Vuciq, despite controlling Serbia, tells foreigners his ability to act is very limited. Here Kosnett also mentions Vucciki's statement on February 21st, where he complained that Serbia has always supported Ukraine's integrity, but on the other hand 85 %s of people will always be on Russia's side, no matter what happens. These are the facts that I face as president of the country”,
The American diplomat adds that in recent years, a series of leaders from the US and EU have tried to lure Serbia towards the West with economic and political incentives, as well as in general have avoided criticism of Serbian movements that lead Vucinqiqi towards Putin's wings.
This was worth a try, but Serbia seems close to Russia and China as never before, Costett said.
As for Kosovo. Kostett has said it is time for all EU member states to focus on the reality of the Republic of Kosovo as a pro-European state and recognise Kosovo's independence.
Some EU member states -- Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain -- have not yet recognised Kosovo's sovereignty, even though some are heading towards such a path. This is partly as a result of separatism in their countries, partly because of the desire not to offend Serbia”, Costnett has said.
