Russia's Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Alexander Grusko, on Tuesday denied reports that Moscow has given the US written answers about Washington's proposals for security guarantees requested by Russia, the RIA agency reported.
This agency quoted a diplomatic source as saying that the response to the United States is still being prepared, Reuters writes.
A US State Department spokesman said Monday that the United States has received written answers from Russia on the issue.
It would be useless to talk in public, so we leave Russia if they want to discuss their answer. We remain fully committed to dialogue to address these issues and will continue to consult closely with the allies (of NATO) and partners, including Ukraine”, the US spokesman said.
Last week, the United States and NATO sent Russian written answers to Moscow's requirements for legally binding security guarantees, at the time of tensions over Ukraine's plans to join NATO.
Russia's President Vladimir Putin said last week that US and NATO answers have not addressed Moscow's main demands, but that his country is willing to continue talks.
