The new measures will also target the Russian Federation National Property Fund and the Russian Federation's Finance Ministry. A senior Biden administration official has stressed that the new sanctions will enter into force immediately.
“We wanted to decide these actions before our markets opened because what we learned over the weekend from our allies and partners was that the Russian Central Bank was trying to move assets and there would be a huge influx of assets starting Monday morning from institutions around the world,” he said.
Among other things, he has stressed that this is their strategy to make sure that the Russian economy returns. As long as President Putin decides to continue with his invasion to Ukraine.
The US is also adding Kiril Dmitriev, another ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, to the list of sanctions, as well as the direct investment fund leading Dmitriev.
