A Russian fighter plane shot near the British on the Black Sea, jeopardising the situation between Moscow and the West. The incident occurred on 29 September, but was reported this Thursday by British Defence Minister Ben Wallace during his speech in parliament.
Wallace said the Royal Air Force was conducting a routine patrol on the Black Sea when it was shot by two Russian aircraft Su-27. According to him, Russian planes had been following the British plane for 90 minutes.
“la directly communicated concern to Russian counterpart Shoigu and Chief of Defence Staff in Moscow”, Wallace said. In my letter I made it clear that our plane was unarmed and was flying into international airspace, via a previously publicized route. I decided that it was best to stop the patrol until we received an answer from the Russian state”.
Wallace said the response from Moscow arrived on October 10th, where he claimed that the British plane had been shot because of a “technical effect”. “We're dealing with a president and, in fact, Russian forces, which go beyond the wrong calculations... for them the rules don't make sense”, he said.
However, Wallace himself now seems to accept the Russian side's reasoning.
