North Korea has launched two other ballistic missiles on January 14th. This is the third test of ballistic missiles this country has done in two weeks.
The announcement of the new tests came after the United States imposed new sanctions on jinn.
South Korea said it has detected what it said looked like two short-range ballistic missiles. According to South Korea, the missiles were launched to the east by Provinca Pyong, located on the west coast of North Korea.
Meanwhile, Japan's coastal guard reported that the North released what was supposed to be the ballistic missile. The dropped missiles fell to sea outside Japan's exclusive economic zone, NHK media reported, citing an unidentified official from Japan's defence minister.
North Korea has argued that testing missiles is legitimate for self-defence and has said the US is deliberately escalating the situation by imposing new sanctions, state media reported on January 14th, citing the foreign ministry.
On January 12th, the US imposed new sanctions on North Korea due to recent tests of ballistic missiles. Washington has called on the UN Security Council to impose new sanctions, as it said recent tests violate the Council's resolutions.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US has made clear that there are no purposes hostile to North Korea and that it is willing to engage in the talks without preconditions, but said the tests were “were thoroughly destabilising”.
