Image of the massive eruption of the volcano in Tonga

An underwater volcano that exploded in Tonga was such a massive one that only happens every thousand years and was so big that it was visible from space. The blast caused a 7.4 magnitude earthquake and tsunami waves crashed on the Pacific Coast and left it covered [...]
In the U.S., waves of up to 4.1 feet were registered in Port San Luis on Saturday, and tsunami waves were recorded along the California coast, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska. Satellite images showed spectacular outbursts from space, and despite terrible warnings, spectators flocked to the beaches to see the surged tsunami waves, while surfers were careful about the wind to catch powerful waves created by waves.
The tsunami-hit Tonga remained largely in contact Sunday with broken telephone and internet connections, leaving relatives in remote New Zealand praying for their families on Pacific islands, while the victims' reports had not yet come. Professor Shane Cronin of the University of Auckland is an expert at the Tonga bombings.
This is one of the massive eruptions that the volcano is able to produce approximately every thousand years,” he wrote in The Conversation.
Cronin added: “We can be in for several weeks or even years of major volcanic unrest from the Hungarian volcano- Tonga-Hunga-Haépai”
Two women drowned in northern Peru when waves hit a truck, dragging it to the sea on the beach of Naylamp, Lamayaque, north of the country. The driver survived, but his wife and another woman drowned in the river. Although Peru did not issue a warning to the tsunami, her navy is monitoring abnormal waves on its shores. The massive ash cloud covering the small island nation of Tonga is preventing New Zealand surveillance flights to assess the extent of the damage. New Zealand Prime Minister Yacinda Ardern said the explosion was very disturbing, and agencies were still trying to establish full communication with Tonga.
A complicating factor for any international relief effort is that Tonga has so far managed to avoid any outbreaks of Covid-19. Mrs. Ardern said the military staff of New Zealand was all vaccinated and willing to follow any protocol imposed by Tonga. The immediate concern in Tonga is air and water safety because of grace and smoke. The government has asked the public to currently wear masks and use water in bottles. Toys were issued for Hawaii, Alaska, and the U.S. Pacific Coast. Hundreds of thousands of Japanese citizens were also advised to evacuate, as more than a metre waves hit coastal areas. The US Geological Service estimated that the blast caused an earthquake equal to 5.8 magnitude. Scientists say the tsunami created by volcanoes, not earthquakes, is relatively rare. The powerful waves recorded in Japan, New Zealand, and Australia, with a loud noise heard at 6,000 miles away in Alaska. The blast is said to have created a new island in Tonga, the second time such an event occurs in Tonga in ten years.
