State Department warns further action following sanctions on Dodik

The US State Department has warned other actions following sanctions against Milorad Dodik and other Bosnian officials, former chairman of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Supreme Judicial and Prosecutorial Council and the chairman of the Movement for Democratic Action, Milan Tegeltija, and Parliamentary Assembly Representative Mirsad Kukiq. In the official UN communiqué in [...]

The UN official community on sanctions reportedly reaffirms US commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina's sovereignty.

These sanctions reaffirm the US's commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina's sovereignty and territorial integrity, rule of law and democratic institutions, as well as a better future for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Other leaders and subjects linked to corrupt or destabilizing acts may also be subject to future actions by the US government. We will continue to use relevant authorities to promote accounts for actors throughout the region and globally”, the US Department communiqué says.

The US Treasury Department has expanded sanctions on Milorad Dodik for corrupt activities and threats to Bosnia and Herzegovina's stability and integrity. The US will hesitate to act on anyone who makes efforts to destabilise the country is said in the communique issued by the American Treasury.

US Treasury Undersecretary Brian Nelson has declared that Dodik has tried to breach the Dayton Agreement by threatening Bosnian but regional stability.

Milorad Dodik's corrupt targets and efforts to undermine the Dayton Agreement motivated by personal interest have threatened the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire region. The US will not hesitate to act against those who pursue corruption, desbilisation and division at the expense of their people, as well as against those who try and facilitate this behavior”, the US Undersecretary said.

The Treasury's move comes after President Joe Biden had signed an Executive Order in June 2021, where he envisioned blocking property and suspending entry into the United States of designated persons contributing to the destabilising situation in the Western Balkans.
