Officials said there have been no specific threats to British diplomats, but about half of the staff working in Kiev will return to England.
This comes after the US ordered relatives of its embassy staff to leave Ukraine, saying a Russian invasion could come “any time”.
While Russia has denied any plans for military action in Ukraine, the BBC writes.
The US State Department also warned people not to travel to Ukraine and Russia due to continued tension and “potential for harassment against American citizens”.
However, the movement is a precautionary measure and nothing specific is thought to have happened in the last 24 hours to have caused the decision.
Not essential staff of the US Embassy are also told they can leave, and American citizens are asked to do the same.
The European Union will not do the same at the moment. EU Security Policy chief Josep Borrell said he would not “dramate” tensions.
