The United Nations has said on Tuesday that it needs $5 billion in aid to Afghanistan in 2022 to prevent the humanitarian disaster.
That's the biggest amount the UN has ever asked for, in a single call.
She has said she needs funds for Afghanistan and millions of Afghans who are taking refuge in neighbouring countries.
According to it, 22 million people within Afghanistan and 5.7 million others who have moved to five neighboring countries need help.
We're approaching full humanitarian disaster. My message is urgent: Do not close the doors for the people of Afghanistan”, the UN's head for Aid, Martin Griffiths, has said.
Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in August last year, this state has faced financial chaos, inflation and increasing unemployment.
Washington has blocked billions of dollars of assets in this country, while aides have also been blocked.
Besides the economic crisis, Afghanistan has faced the worst drought in decades in 2021.
Without a bailout package “there will be no future”, Griffiths said before journalists in Geneva.
