Reagon Djukanovi: That helicopter is a victory for a government that serves Serbian interests

In an extraordinary response to the chaotic situation in Cetinje and the disillusionment of the new Serbian Orthodox Church, Ionanikije II, Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic said that “alone would allow itself to enter the Cetinje monastery by helicopter”, reports Croatian medium Jutarnji. So Djukanovic [...]

So Djukanovic referred to the fact that Ionanikije and the patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Porfirije, flew to Cetinje by helicopter, while many protesters were waiting and numerous barricades were placed in the city and on the roads leading to it.

“Today in Cetinje, we witnessed the great shame of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Government of Montenegro, an unprecedented disgrace in the long history of the Montenegrin state, and the same in the history of general Orthodoxy”, the Montenegrin president said at the beginning of the speech.

“Using brutal abuse of state security institutions, mainly army and police, and the totally inappropriate use of force against citizens gathered peacefully in the Montenegrin capital, the Montenegrin government enabled the violent migration of the Yoanikije machine against the will of the overwhelming majority of Cetinje citizens and a considerable number of Montenegrin citizens. Only a man with no dignity would allow him to be brought to the Cetinje monastery in such a helicopter way that descended to the Montenegrin capital under armoured protection, and thus shamed the throne of St Peter”, Djukanovic said.

He said Cetinje citizens were in charge of office, as they have been many times in Montenegro's history. Djukanovic said citizens gathered peacefully in a decisive and responsible manner defended the honour and dignity of their city and state.

“This is best attested to by the fact that despite the significant provocations they suffered, gathered citizens did not at any moment allow themselves to endanger the peace and stability of the capital and Montenegro, and risk the lives and health of any of the gathered citizens, including members of Montenegrin security authorities”, Djukanovic said.

This is the government's victory of Pirros, which continues to serve major state interests and the Serbian Orthodox Church as the hit song of Serbian nationalism against Montenegro. Otherwise, it could be said that this is the end of the respect the Serbian Orthodox Church has enjoyed so far in both our Montenegrin capital and our country, the Montenegrin president said.

Mitrovici Ionnikije was evacuated Sunday morning in Montenegro's historic religious capital, despite opposition from several thousand protesters who kept their roads blocked for Cetinje for two days.

Serbian Mitrovici Ionnikije and Patriarch Porfirije arrived in Cetinje by helicopter and accompanied by a special police unit, as police forces broke barricades and protests in the heart of the Montenegrin capital and on the streets using tear gas and shock bombs.

The protests clearly show tensions in Montenegro among residents who advocate close ties with Belgrade, and the patriotic Montenegrins opposing it, the transmission Express.

After the maturity, the Yoanikije machine said it would take a lot of time to overcome the current divisions, much of which he said were artificially provoked.

The ceremony was preceded by incidents in which, according to official data, seven policemen were injured and dozens of protesters sought medical assistance.

Also, 14 persons were arrested, including Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic's security adviser, Veselin Veljovic.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokafic said the attack on police was an attack on the state.

Everything that happened yesterday and today in Cetinje is an attempt at terrorist action. It is clear that the authors and organisers are the highest DPS chairmanship in co-operation with organised criminal groups, which the state will be brought to the path”, has written Krivokapiq on Twitter.

On the other hand, Democratic Party of Socialists representative (DPS) and former Prime Minister Dusko Markovic said the Krivokapic government brought the country into conflict and caused the biggest obstacle for Montenegro.

The US Embassy in Montenegro called for an urgent reduction of tensions. It called on citizens not to dismiss their anger at the police.

In a statement, the US Embassy called on police to use only the necessary means to establish peace in preventing unrest. All of you who support a multiethnic, inclusive and democratic Montenegro are invited to reduce current tensions”, said the embassy's Facebook post.

Montenegro seceded from Serbia in 2006, but its church has not become autocephales and is under the auspices of the Serbian Orthodox Church, which opponents see as a symbol of Serbia's influence in independent Montenegro.

While Ionikiye praised that the move has been politicised and that no one has the right to ask the Serbian Orthodox Church to hold the ceremony elsewhere, while Montenegrins consider it insulting and provoking that the leader of the Orthodox Church be enthroned in a monastery where St. Peter of Cetinje was traditionally located.
