The Atacama Desert, in Chile, is the worst place in the world. However, on August 25th, there was considerable snowfall that blocked roads. In some areas, snow reached 15 inches [15 cm].
Cities such as El Salvador and San Pedro de Atacama, some 750 miles [ 750 km] north of Santiago, woke up covered by snow.
Speaking to Reuters, meteorologist Daniel Diaz explained that snowfall “does not occur every year”. The less in August, when winter ends in the Southern Hemisphere. “Normically, more snow is expected in June and July,” it adds.
Snowfalls, the largest in 3 decades, have covered the area, where it hardly rains year-round, and authorities have sounded the alarm for flooding in the coming days. /A2 CNN
