Today Kosovo completes July for recognition, application to international organisations

Kosovo can begin lobbiing for diplomatic recognition by other states from today, as well as for membership, in the event US demands to continue the government are not taken into account.

This, as September 4th is the date of the one-year-old mortorium expiration under the Washington Agreement, which called for non-membership in international organisations and lobby for recognition, writes Express newspaper.

Moratorium in the agreement signed by the two states last year under the administration of former President Donald Trump was also provided for Serbia not to continue the campaign against Kosovo.

“Kosovo (Pristina) will agree to implement a year-old mortorium, not to seek new membership in international organisations. Serbia (Belgrade) will agree to implement a one-year rhetoric on its campaign for recognition and will refrain from formal or informal demands on any country or international organisation not to recognise Kosovo (Pristina) as an independent state. All agreements to give up will enter into force immediately”, said at one of the provisions of the agreement.

On the other hand, during the day the US State Department has asked Kosovo and Serbia to continue the mortorium on issues of recognition.

Also, the UN has demanded respect for obligations issued by the Washington Agreement this year from both states.

From the Kurti government, there has not yet been any statements concerning this demand, though the same has disputed some of the provisions of this agreement. Also, during August, Kosovo's Parliament has failed to pass resolution on implementation of the Washington Agreement, which the ruling party rejected.
