North Korean leader Kim Jong has ordered his state officials to carry out a stricter campaign to prevent pandemic, saying this should be done “in our” style.

His statement came just days after reports that North Korea has rejected nearly 3 million doses of the vaccine against Covid-19 of the United Nations-backed programme, cautioning that those vaccines are offered to countries that have been hit the hardest by the virus.

During a meeting of the political bureau Thursday, Kim was quoted by the state news agency to tell officials: “You should remember that strengthening the prevention of the epidemic is a task of greater importance, which should not be weakened at any moment. ”

Kim Jong has previously warned residents of North Korea to prepare for long restrictive measures, implying that the state's borders will remain closed despite worsening the economic situation and difficulties for providing food.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, North Korea has used strict quarantine and closure of borders to prevent the spread of the virus, although its claim that there has been no case with Ovid-19 is believed by experts.
