Before the media, Lajcak has said there is no reason for pessimism in the process, adding that the meeting in question was not simple and considering the new Albin “in the dialogue process, although the latter has been indirectly involved by the foundation of Vetevendosje [as a reaction to the dialogue process in Vienna] in the 2000s.
I believe that we have no right to be pessimistic, and we have no cause for pessimistic. For the first personal meeting between the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo, it would be naive to say that such a meeting was simple. The fact that a meeting was held and talked about for several hours and that both sides are interested in a normalisation of relations and that they believe the dialogue facilitated by the EU is the right way is a positive sign”, Lajcak said.
According to Lajcak, Kurti has a strong mandate in Kosovo, and with authority he can talk about the dialogue process.
There will be another appointment before the summer break. Prime Minister Albin Kurti is new to this dialogue, is a process that started in 2011 and has produced several results. He [Albin Kurti] brings his views to this process and it is important that he has a very strong political mandate because he has chosen a great majority and can speak with authority”, Lajcak said further.
He reiterated the phrase that dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia matters for the whole region, and that commitment is needed in that form for the outcome to be successful.
