New York Governor Charged With Sexual Harassment and Misunderstanding of COVID Numbers

For weeks early last year, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo pointed out the quick handling of the situation created by the pandemic, while closing businesses not essential to prevent the spread of the coronary. Special was the daily release at press conferences for [...]

With three mandates the governor, 63-year-old Democrat was seen as a model for direct leadership amid the crisis. By the middle of last year, after the virus spread rapidly across the United States, it would declare that New York, the fourth largest American state of 19 million people, “, exceeded the worst situation in the country or in the world, to a dramatic decline in” infections.

But currently, Governor Cuomo is facing two crises created by him himself. He is accused of minimising the pandemic situation in the homes of seniors in New York and of sexual harassment against two young women on his team. A heavy blow to his image and seriousness while calling for resignation from the direction of the state of New York.

He is accused of significantly reducing in public statements the death toll from Coronavirus to homes of seniors in New York State. That figure is officially 15,000 compared to 8,500 reported earlier.

A senior assistant to Cuomo told New York state lawmakers that officials feared that the “data would be used against them” by possible federal investigation by the Department of Justice under President Donald Trump's administration, an old opponent of the Democrat Cuomo.

Currently, numerous media reports speak of investigations by the Department of Justice on the number of deaths in the homes of seniors in New York, even though Democrat Joe Biden, a political ally of Cuomo, has come to the top of the country.

In the other case, Democrat Cuomo faces charges of sexual harassment by two women working in the governor's office.

The lawmakers of that state, including some of Cuomo's democratic colleagues, have called for his resignation and investigation following the release of large numbers of visits to the homes of elders and his unwanted comments to women.

One of the women, Lindsey Boylan, former economic development official, claims that he had harassed her on several occasions since 2016 to 2018, and without her will she had kissed him on the edge of his office in New York City, claiming to be rejected by Cuomo.

The other accuser, Charlotte Bennett, a 25-year-old former governor's aide, raises the claim to sexual harassment last year. She told the New York Times that the governor had asked her about her sexual life and if she had been intimate with older men.

I realized that the governor wanted to sleep with me, and I felt terribly bad and scared”, Bennett told the paper. I wondered how I was going to get out of this situation and assumed it was the end of my work right here at”. In November she quit her job.

Asked about the charges against Cuomo for sexual harassment, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Beden believes that “any woman who charges should be treated with dignity and respect”. Psaki added that, “This applies to Charlotte and Lindsey”, referring to two accusers of Governor Cuomo.

On Sunday, Cuomo admitted that he could have made inappropriate comments in his conversation with Bennett that could have been “misinterpreted as an unwanted flirting”.

The governor said his comments were part of his work life, where, in some cases, “harassed people about their lives and personal relations”.

I understand now that my actions may have been non-sensive or very personal and that some of my comments, given the post, made others feel in ways that were not my goal”, Cuomo said through a declerate. I admit that some things I said were misinterpreted as unwanted flirting. For those who feel that way, I apologize. ”

Governor Cuomo said he would allow State Attorney General Lettia James to appoint anyone she wanted to investigate allegations of sexual harassment. /voa/
