During the year 2021, 12 police officers have been arrested and 23 of them have been suspended, while accepting about 244 complaints by citizens to police officials, the chief chief chief of the Kosovo Police Inspectorate (IPK), Framework Hoda.
In addition, he said that imposing measures to prevent the spread of Avid-19 has resulted in many complaints on the part of citizens against police workers.
The “Viti we left behind, as well as this year, which is a year of special specifics because of the pandemic where even the police commitments have been greater because of the restrictions that have resulted from government decisions and anti-Condavid action, and these have produced perhaps even more police activity and in certain situations the greatest disappointment of citizens to police work, as a result of this has increased the number of complaints against police officials and our commitment as police inspectors, as a police institution, where we have arrested two months of police employees and 23 employees, as a result of the police investigation, Hox said.
Cases of exercise of physical and psychic violence conducted by Kosovo Police members towards citizens have been reported through videos from media in the country.
According to Hoda, police officials are authorized to use violence when necessary and necessary, but without overstepping laws and regulations.
Police officers are authorized to use violence and force when necessary and when used should be proportional and in line with the law and internal police regulations. Whenever this is used in harmony with these rules, it's all right, but when this is over, and citizens are caused without need of violence or mistreatment, and beyond what is allowed by law, of course, it is disciplinary or criminal offense, and the abuse of duty because then measures are taken against them”, he stressed for EO.
Chief Chief Chief Hoda said the number of complaints about the two months they've received on the part of citizens has increased by 20% more, and their number is 244.
“Janar and this part of February to date is the number of complaints we've received so far is 244, it's a significant high number and it's somewhere at the rate of 20 % higher than in the same pre-year period, and yet the preliminary year has been higher than 2019 so we're going to a trend of increasing the number of complaints during police workers. There are different reasons and one of them is the awareness of citizens to present their concerns, and second the pandemic and restrictions on citizens, and that adds therefore the number of complaints against police officials”, he said among other things.
He also explained that they constantly hold meetings with citizens and students to be as close as possible and to consider how to file a complaint with police officials.
In addition to the daily work we do and the response to citizens' complaints, we have done awareness campaigns and through advertising spots and focus meetings groups, meeting students for the role of our work and how they should file complaints to police officials”, Hoda said.
He said that they will constantly make sure that the investigations are faster and more professional, and that they can document cases of violations.
